“Signs From My Mom”: Michelle & Lala’s Heartbreaking Beach Grief Session Is Season 3’s Most Emotional Moment Yet

In Season 3 Episode 6, The Valley delivered its most raw and heartfelt scene of the season so far — and it had nothing to do with group drama or pool party fights.

While walking along the San Diego beach, Michelle Lally opened up to Lala Kent about the devastating loss of her mother just six months earlier.

With tears in her eyes, Michelle shared how the ocean triggers memories of long beach walks and talks with her mom, who was her “ride or die.”

She admitted that sometimes she still wakes up and forgets her mom is gone. Most touching of all, Michelle revealed her belief that her mother sends her signs — often appearing in dreams — to guide and comfort her.

This deeply vulnerable moment builds beautifully on Michelle’s ongoing emotional arc. In Episode 5, she shared with Nia how her father’s undiagnosed mental illness led to paranoia and abandonment during her parents’ divorce, forcing her to quit gymnastics at 15.

Go back to Episode 2’s salt-cave sound bath with Schwartz, and you see the beginning of this grief thread, where she broke down about literally watching her mom die in front of her eyes.

What made the beach scene so powerful was Lala’s response. Lala opened up about losing her own father almost seven and a half years ago, saying she still remembers every detail about him — his wrinkles, his hands, his hugs.

“I miss him a lot,” she said, adding that she wishes he was still here to remind her that good men and good fathers still exist. The two women embraced, creating one of the most authentic friendships we’ve seen on the show this season.

In a cast full of apologies, pool party tension, and new romances, Michelle and Lala’s conversation felt refreshingly real. While others spiral in petty conflicts, Michelle continues quietly doing the deep work of processing layered family trauma and fresh grief.

This moment may be the emotional core of Season 3.
