“I’m Happy It’s Over, But I’m Also Really Sad”: Michelle Gives Jesse Raw Divorce Closure at Schwartz’s Party
In Season 3 Episode 11 of The Valley, during Schwartz’s 007-themed birthday party, Jesse Lally pulled Michelle aside for some long-overdue closure — and got more honesty than he probably expected.
Jesse questioned Michelle about her tears over their marriage, referencing a conversation where she told Lala she was “relieved” to be out of the “toxic situation.” “Which one is it?” he asked. Michelle didn’t hold back.
“I’m happy that it’s over, but I’m also really sad,” she said, getting emotional. She explained that going through the divorce while losing her mom was incredibly painful.
“It was a toxic relationship. It was not a good marriage,” Michelle stated clearly. She pointed out that Jesse treats Lacy with a level of respect and care he never showed her.
This raw exchange is a major moment in Michelle’s journey. It builds directly on their explosive fight in Episode 7 (where Lacy accused Michelle of pushing Jesse through a window) and Jesse’s shady comments in Episode 2, where he claimed he and Lacy are intellectual “equals” while Michelle was “just there for the ride.”
Michelle’s grief has been a quiet thread all season — from the salt-cave talk with Schwartz in Episode 2, her gymnastics conversation about her dad in Episode 5, to the emotional beach moment with Lala in Episode 6.
This party conversation shows her doing the hard work of processing both the end of her marriage and the loss of her mother.
Relationship Watch: For the first time, Michelle stood firm in her truth without shrinking. Jesse wanted clarity, and he got it — their marriage wasn’t just over, it was unhealthy. While co-parenting will always connect them, this felt like a necessary step toward real closure.
