Venita and Craig's Awkward Hand-Hold: The Universe's Ironic Message to 'Fix It or Get Out'

Venita and Craig’s Awkward Hand-Hold: The Universe’s Ironic Message to ‘Fix It or Get Out’

Southern Charm Season 11 Episode 14 (“About Last Night”) served up peak irony during Shep Rose’s healing retreat in Mexico when a guided spiritual exercise randomly paired Venita Aspen and Craig Conover—two cast members whose tension has simmered for seasons—in an intimate hand-holding moment.

The ritual unfolded after the group drank cacao and listened to sound bowls. Spirit guide Victoria instructed everyone to close their eyes, wander the room, and grab someone’s hands to silently honor and express gratitude for them. When eyes opened, Venita and Craig found themselves face-to-face, fingers interlocked.

The reaction was instantaneous and unmistakable: both wore expressions that screamed “…nah.” Venita later summed it up perfectly in a confessional: “This feels like the gods saying fix it or get out…and I want to get out.”

Her deadpan delivery captured the absurdity and exhaustion of being forced into proximity with someone she’s repeatedly clashed with, most notably during ongoing fights with Craig that carried over from earlier episodes.

The pairing felt like cosmic commentary on the group’s unresolved issues. Venita and Craig have never been close; their interactions often highlight Craig’s defensiveness and Venita’s unwillingness to let certain behaviors slide.

The hand-hold—meant to foster connection and gratitude—only underscored how far apart they remain, despite the retreat’s best intentions.

The moment stood in contrast to the slightly warmer (though still skeptical) reunion between Austen Kroll and Craig in the same exercise. While Austen and Craig shared giggles and nostalgic flashbacks, Venita’s response was pure rejection—no nostalgia, no softening, just a clear desire to disengage.

The scene reinforced a recurring theme in the episode: Shep’s elaborate spiritual agenda (smoke cleansing, sweat lodge, cacao, hand-holding, group hugs) could create fleeting symbolic gestures, but it couldn’t manufacture genuine reconciliation where none existed.

Venita’s quip about wanting to “get out” echoed the broader skepticism from Molly O’Connell and Whitney Sudler-Smith, who predicted the entire ceremony wouldn’t fix the cast’s deeper fractures.

With the season finale preview teasing yet another explosive Craig-Austen argument, the awkward Venita-Craig hand-hold serves as a reminder: sometimes the universe’s message isn’t subtle, and not every forced moment of healing lands the way it’s intended.

Southern Charm Season 11 airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo, with episodes streaming on Peacock.
