The Last of Us Season 3 Adds Yara & Lev – Meet the New Cast Members
HBO’s The Last of Us has made its most significant casting reveal yet for Season 3, officially bringing aboard Michelle Mao and Kyriana Kratter to portray the beloved Seraphite siblings Yara and Lev from The Last of Us Part II.
Per an exclusive from Deadline, Mao (Bridgerton‘s Rosamund Li) steps into the role of Yara, the fierce and protective older sister, while 15-year-old Kratter (fresh off her breakout as KB in Disney+’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew) takes on Lev, the young, defiant Seraphite who questions the cult’s strict traditions and forges a profound bond with Abby.
The siblings are integral to the Seattle chapter of the story, where their encounters with Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever) deliver some of the game’s most emotionally charged and redemptive moments.
Their casting underscores HBO’s commitment to faithfully adapting the complex dynamics of the Seraphites—a scarred, whistle-communicating religious group locked in brutal warfare with the Washington Liberation Front (WLF)—while highlighting themes of family, identity, and survival.
This announcement follows a flurry of recent updates for the season: promotions of Ariela Barer (Mel), Tati Gabrielle (Nora), and Spencer Lord (Owen) to series regulars; the recasting of Manny with Jorge Lendeborg Jr.; and recurring additions like Patrick Wilson as Jerry Anderson (Abby’s father in flashbacks) and Jason Ritter as Hanley, an original WLF character. Clea DuVall was also tapped for an unnamed Seraphite role.
Bella Ramsey returns as Ellie, Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, with the season shifting focus to Abby’s perspective and the escalating conflict in Seattle.
Fans of the source material have already expressed enthusiasm for Mao and Kratter, praising their prior performances and the age-accurate fit for Lev (a transgender character whose journey challenges Seraphite dogma).
The duo’s addition is seen as a strong step toward capturing the nuance and heartbreak of Yara and Lev’s arc.
Production on Season 3 is progressing steadily, with no exact premiere date confirmed but expectations pointing to a 2027 window on HBO and Max. As the series continues to expand its post-apocalyptic world, these new Seraphite siblings promise to add layers of humanity to an already intense narrative.
Representatives for HBO, Mao, and Kratter have yet to offer additional comment, but the casting news has ignited fresh anticipation among viewers eager for the next chapter in Joel and Ellie’s legacy. Stay tuned for more updates as filming continues.
