K. Michelle Admits She’s Not Speaking to Her 21-Year-Old Son After Crashing His Benz Into a Fence During Epic Uber Argument
K. Michelle is keeping it all the way real about her current family drama — and it’s messy.
In a raw new interview on The Jason Lee Show (which aired on BET), the Real Housewives of Atlanta newcomer revealed that she and her 21-year-old son are currently not speaking… all because he wanted to start Ubering in the Mercedes-Benz she bought him at 16.
“Me and my child ain’t talking right now, but it’s all good,” K. Michelle shared candidly.
The drama kicked off when her son — who recently graduated from North Carolina Central University with a 3.8 GPA, pledged Alpha, completed multiple internships with Mastercard, and landed a corporate job in D.C. — decided he didn’t want handouts anymore. Instead, he started driving for Uber… in the luxury Benz his mom gifted him.
“My child decides that he don’t want a handout and he don’t want anything. That’s all I’m working for,” K. Michelle explained. “He gon’ Uber while he in college. He gon’ Uber with a Benz in Memphis. Who you know Uber with a Benz?”
When she confronted him in the car, things escalated fast. “We get in the car and I’m telling him, ‘You can’t do this.’ He gets up right with me. So all I know is I’m like, ‘Bop! Bop! Bop!’ I’m telling him like, ‘Are you crazy?’ And then I take the car and I ran into a fence and knocked down whoever fence. We still ain’t went to jail.”
K. Michelle continued venting, “Why would you Uber? Any money you make from Uber, I’m gonna send it to you right away. That’s why I work hard.”
She added that she wants her son to understand she’ll always be there for him: “I would like for him to not have to be so independent. I would like for him to know that I’m there through anything.”
The Love & Hip Hop alum has openly discussed missing big chunks of her son’s childhood while grinding to build her career and provide for her family. She had him while in college at Florida A&M, graduated on time, and eventually let her parents raise him so she could pursue music. Now that he’s grown and thriving, she’s struggling with his fierce independence.
Later in the interview, K. Michelle revealed she’s planning to have a daughter via surrogate (not IVF, because it messes with her hormones) and wants the “newborn mama” experience she didn’t fully get the first time around.
The mother-son tension comes as K. Michelle is making her highly anticipated debut on Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 17. She told Jason Lee that fans will see some “pretty low” moments this season, including someone using painful things from her past (involving men) to try to hurt her on camera.
But for now, the biggest headline from the interview is this very real, very relatable mom drama.
