K. Michelle Defends R. Kelly & Asks “What About All the Mothers in the Kitchen Cooking?” in Shocking Interview
K. Michelle is not afraid to stir the pot — even when it comes to one of the most controversial figures in music.
In a raw and unfiltered interview on The Jason Lee Show, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star opened up about her complicated history with R. Kelly and pushed back against the one-sided narrative surrounding him.
K. Michelle, who worked with R. Kelly early in her career, defended him by asking a question that left many speechless: “What about all the mothers in the kitchen cooking?”
She explained that while she doesn’t excuse his alleged actions, she believes the full story — including the enablers around him — has never been properly addressed.
“If it wasn’t for Robert Kelly, I would not know the business,” K. Michelle admitted. “He taught me about writing and music. Can’t nobody take that from me.”
She went on to say she never witnessed any abuse herself during her time with him and stressed that men can behave differently with different women. K. Michelle also revealed she learned everything about the music industry from him and credited him with helping her when others turned her away.
However, she made it clear she stands with women and fights for them, adding that the entire system around R. Kelly felt “corrupt.”
The comments come years after the Surviving R. Kelly documentary and continue to spark debate. K. Michelle previously dropped the same line in an earlier interview with Jason Lee, and it still remains one of the most talked-about moments in their conversations.
She also addressed the emotional toll it took on her when R. Kelly was arrested, saying she watched her mentor being taken to jail while standing in the recording booth.
K. Michelle emphasized that she can separate the music from the man and still listens to his unreleased records, while acknowledging the pain caused to the alleged victims.
This latest interview shows K. Michelle staying true to her unfiltered self — refusing to rewrite history just because it’s uncomfortable.
