Channing Tatum Makes Triumphant Red Carpet Return at Berlinale 2026 After Shoulder Surgery, Promotes Acclaimed Thriller ‘Josephine’

Channing Tatum is back in action and looking sharper than ever. The 45-year-old actor stepped out on the red carpet in Berlin on February 20 for the premiere of his new thriller Josephine at the 76th Berlinale International Film Festival, marking his first major public appearance since undergoing shoulder surgery earlier this month.

Tatum, sporting a fresh buzz cut and sleek all-black suit, posed alongside co-star Gemma Chan and director Beth de Araújo at the Berlinale Palast. The film, which world-premiered at Sundance in January 2026 and swept the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award, follows an 8-year-old girl who witnesses a crime in Golden Gate Park and grapples with trauma while adults struggle to help.

Tatum plays a father figure in the emotionally charged drama, drawing from real-life parenting experiences with his 12-year-old daughter Everly (shared with ex-wife Jenna Dewan).

In press interviews at the festival, Tatum opened up about channeling his own conversations with Everly into the role, highlighting the film’s sensitive exploration of sexual assault’s impact on families. He admitted the project hit close to home, adding depth to his performance in what critics are calling one of the year’s early standouts.

The appearance comes just weeks after Tatum revealed a serious injury sustained while filming Avengers: Doomsday (set for December 2026 release), where he’ll reprise his Gambit role from Deadpool & Wolverine.

On February 3, he underwent surgery for a “separated shoulder,” sharing hospital photos, X-ray images (showing a surgical screw holding the bones together), and a candid update: “Just another day. Another challenge. This one is gonna be hard. But whatever. Let’s get it in.”

On February 19, he posted a shirtless Instagram selfie showcasing the prominent scar on his right shoulder, joking that it was “much bigger than anticipated” but confirming he’s healing well. Fans flooded the post with support, praising his resilience amid a packed career.

Tatum’s 2026 is shaping up to be massive. Beyond Josephine (distribution details pending) and Avengers: Doomsday, upcoming projects include Kockroach (a crime drama with Taron Egerton and Zazie Beetz, filming soon in Australia), Dance Parents (a comedy with Charlize Theron), and a live stage adaptation of Magic Mike hitting Times Square in October. He also continues producing and exploring diverse roles after hits like Blink Twice and Roofman.

Despite a brief moment of controversy at Berlinale—when asked about signing an open letter on Palestine solidarity and the festival’s stance, Tatum appeared uncomfortable and deferred, saying he didn’t fully understand the question—focus remains on his professional momentum and recovery.

As Tatum powers through setbacks with his signature positivity, Hollywood’s leading man proves he’s as tough off-screen as on. With festival buzz building and blockbuster slate ahead, 2026 could be Tatum’s biggest year yet.
