Shonda Rhimes Leaves ‘Bridgerton’ Fans Buzzing with Good News

Bridgerton enthusiasts are abuzz after showrunner and executive producer Shonda Rhimes dropped an exciting hint about the future of the beloved Netflix period drama universe.

The series, a global sensation since its 2020 debut focusing on Daphne Bridgerton’s romance, continues to thrive. Season 4—centering on Benedict Bridgerton’s love story—recently wrapped its two-part rollout, with Part 1 premiering January 29, 2026, and Part 2 on February 26, 2026, and is now fully streaming on Netflix.

Fresh off that momentum, Rhimes teased the possibility of another spin-off during a candid appearance on Craig Melvin’s Glass Half Full podcast. Building on the massive success of 2023’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, she expressed enthusiasm for expanding the world further.

“I’ve always said that I thought if we were going to do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about—the Bridgerton mom,” Rhimes shared. “Yeah, that’s a possibility.”

The potential prequel would center on family matriarch Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) and her late husband Edmund, exploring their passionate love story, marriage, and the family they built—culminating in tragedy when Edmund dies from a bee sting while Violet is pregnant with their youngest child, Hyacinth. This emotional arc of love, loss, and resilience could offer a poignant contrast to the show’s signature steamy romances.

Rhimes emphasized that more stories in the Bridgerton universe are “definitely” on the horizon, calling it “an area that we’re excited about and know that that could be really rich and really mined well.”

Fans are already speculating about casting a younger Violet and Edmund, with many pointing to the brief glimpses of young Violet in Queen Charlotte as a promising foundation.

Dearest gentle readers, could Violet and Edmund’s tale be next to grace our screens? The Bridgerton family saga shows no signs of slowing down—stay tuned for more scandalous developments!
