Sweat Lodge Showdown: Who Survived the Healing Retreat — and Who Bailed?

Sweat Lodge Showdown: Who Survived the Healing Retreat — and Who Bailed?

Southern Charm Season 11 Episode 14 (“About Last Night”) turned Shep Rose’s ambitious healing retreat in Mexico into a literal test of endurance, with the group’s sweat lodge experience exposing who could handle the heat—both figuratively and physically.

Shep organized the elaborate ceremony for the cast’s final night in Mexico, hoping it would mend fractured relationships after Craig Conover’s van meltdown.

The agenda kicked off with a cleansing smoke ritual, where Salley Carson and Venita Aspen couldn’t resist joking that Craig would “need a lot more smoke to cleanse his soul.” Shep, drawing from his own ayahuasca experience, stressed the importance of the step for spiritual reset.

The centerpiece was a traditional sweat lodge: a small, enclosed hut heated by hot stones and steam. Molly O’Connell and Whitney Sudler-Smith opted out immediately, choosing relaxing massages instead—a choice many viewers likely related to. Whitney, already vocal about his skepticism toward “hippie” rituals, made his crankiness clear from the start.

The remaining participants—Craig, Austen Kroll, Charley Manley, Salley, Venita, Shep, and others—entered the hut for what turned into roughly 75 minutes of intense heat.

Venita quipped that “if anyone’s wondering what hell feels like, it’s probably about two degrees away from this,” capturing the grueling atmosphere. Craig, who many felt needed the experience most, was the first to bail, emerging tomato-red and visibly overwhelmed. Whitney followed shortly after, reinforcing his earlier reluctance.

Those who stayed through the full session emerged with glowing reviews. Austen called it a meaningful bonding moment for the group.

Venita described it as “one of the most beautiful things” she’d ever done, while Charley and Salley admitted to being blissfully thoughtless in the aftermath—though Salley couldn’t help but joke about her thoughts drifting to Austen in the shower.

The sweat lodge exit pattern seemed to mirror the cast’s broader dynamics: Craig and Whitney tapped out early, while others pushed through, perhaps symbolizing varying levels of commitment to personal growth or group reconciliation.

Shep’s hope that the ritual would spark real change was met with immediate doubt from Molly and Whitney, who predicted it wouldn’t fix the underlying issues.

As the episode transitioned to the cacao drink ceremony and hand-holding exercises—interrupted by a dramatic storm—the sweat lodge stood out as the most physically demanding part of Shep’s healing plan.

With previews showing yet another Craig-Austen blowout in the finale, the question lingers: Did anyone truly emerge cleansed, or was the heat just another fleeting moment in Southern Charm’s ongoing drama?

Southern Charm Season 11 airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo, with episodes streaming on Peacock.
